People think that losing weight is a piece of cake for those who are in the trucking industry. Truck and pilot car drivers can stop whenever they want to move around and grab any healthy meal. However, carrying an extra two tons on 18 wheels isn’t as easy as one thinks. If you want to start the healthy lifestyle while being on the road, start with these six ways while.

1. Map Out Your Route

Before stepping up in that 18 wheel truck or the pilot car that leads the way map out your route. You want to time your route in the most efficient way possible mapping out where you can stop safely to grab healthy meals, big areas to exercise and sleeping arrangements. Remember trucker and pilot car safety is the most important through out the whole trip.

2. Eat & Drink Well

We all love french fries as a guilty pleasure snack but the sodium and fatty oils just do not get along with our arteries or our jeans. Instead try easy on the go veggies. Now I know some of us can’t eat vegetables plain so instead ranch dressing try hummus. For the sodium cravers try trail mix. Just get a bag of chex mix add raisins, nuts, M&Ms and your favorite dried fruits. Then store it in your favorite container and take it with you on the go. You can even put them in snack Ziploc bags for portion control.

Now for our sweet tooth monsters instead of sweets there are better options. Try fresh fruit. Berries are the easiest to store in your coolers and easy to handle while you’re on the road. They’re sweet and pop right into your mouth.

The best type of foods for an on the go person is high protein like eggs, Greek yogurt, nuts and peanut butter. Hard, boiled eggs made to go are a great source of protein for breakfast time. Greek yogurt is the best kind, it doubles the protein, has half the carbs and half the sodium than regular yogurt. All nuts are good nuts you just have to pick out your favorites. Peanut butter is a great snack. It is filled with protein, antioxidants and it’s just delicious. Try a whole wheat English muffin with all natural crunchy or creamy peanut butter. If you want to stay away from the carbs try peanut butter on fruits such as apples and bananas for a good source of energy.

Thinking about all of that peanut butter being stuck to the roof of your mouth you’re reaching for that water to help wash it down. That’s right good ole H2O. Water has ZERO calories, fat and sugar and your body needs it to stay hydrated. Soda is the king of sugar central. To gain those boosts of energy try tea. It can give you a good burst of energy and add honey for a natural sweetener.

3. Exercise

Now that you’re trying to eat healthier, getting in exercise is the next step. You want to at least get in 15 minutes everyday. You can even use your truck for some exercises.

Push ups – place hands against the side of the trailer and pump away. I would start out with 10 each for 3 sets.

Wall sits – place yourself within the cargo section squat down and stay in that position. Time your self for 1 minute for 3 sets.

Dips – Dip to get to those triceps in between the driver and passenger seats for 10 times for 3 sets.
